Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes

Next week, we will kick off our first essay – the narrative.  We will spend time mid-week working through a fun filled activity that will set the students up with their main character and story line. We will then of course spend time focusing on the other important elements necessary in narrative writing. I will share numerous tools and examples to help provide clarity to what my expectations are for this type of essay. Students will also have 2 class periods in the computer lab to prepare their rough draft.

Pick ONE of the following prompts to complete over the weekend.

Your 9/11 piece is due in FDF on Monday, September 10, 2012

Option 1:

Put yourself in the shoes of someone who experienced 9/11.  You could become a fire/policeman, a passenger in an airplane, a worker in the World Trade Center or the Pentagon, or a family member of someone who is in danger.  Write about your day, your feelings, your fears, etc.

Option 2:

Interview someone you know who remembers 9/11 over the weekend.  Create ten, thoughtful questions for this interview, and write down the answers you are given.
